MRP and Legal Metrology sticker maker
Packed goods sold in India need a label with the maker's name and address, net quantity, MRP and consumer care details, among others (Legal Metrology rules; full list below, checked 21 Oct 2026). Type them once and print stickers for a thermal printer or A4.

What an MRP sticker must show
The Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, rule 6, ask every pre-packed product sold in India to carry these details on the pack or on a label stuck firmly to it:
- The name and address of the maker (manufacturer). When someone else packs it, the packer's too. For goods made abroad, the importer's.
- The country of origin, for goods made abroad.
- The common or generic name of the product, like "Cotton kurti".
- The net quantity in a standard unit: weight (g, kg), volume (ml, L), length (cm, m) or number of pieces.
- The month and year it was made.
- The MRP in Indian currency, inclusive of all taxes.
- The unit sale price: the price per gram, kg, ml, litre, cm, metre or piece. Not needed when it equals the MRP. Not needed either for combination, group and multi-piece packs (each piece packed or labelled on its own), per the change announced 6 Oct 2023, in force 1 Jan 2024.
- Consumer care details: the name, address, phone number and email of the person or office that takes complaints.
- A best before or use by date, for goods that can go bad.
- The size or dimensions, where they matter.
Checked on 21 Oct 2026 against the Department of Consumer Affairs' notices and legal guides to the rules, including the changes of 2022 (unit sale price, MRP in Indian currency, month of manufacture) and 2023. Some goods have their own rules: food follows the FSSAI label rules. From 1 Jan 2023 (notified 22 Aug 2022) loose clothes need a shorter list: maker or brand name and address, country of origin if imported, consumer care phone and email, the size in cm next to S/M/L, and the MRP; for online sales these must be on the listing. Rules change, so check the current rules for your product with your state's Legal Metrology office.
How tall the letters must be
Since 1 Jan 2018 (GSR 629(E), 2017) the rules set the smallest height of every letter and number on the label by the area of the pack's front (the front of a pouch or the biggest side of a box; round packs are measured differently, check the rule): up to 50 sq cm, 1 mm; up to 100 sq cm, 1.5 mm; up to 500 sq cm, 2.5 mm; up to 2,500 sq cm, 4 mm; above 2,500 sq cm, 6 mm. This is as legal guides report it; the gazette text was not read.
What this tool does, and what it does not
- It prints the lines you type in the order above, the price and quantity biggest, with no letter under 1 mm tall.
- Type your pack's front size (width and height in cm) and it says how tall the letters must be for that pack, and whether this sticker's smallest letters reach it. Left empty, it does not check letter height.
- It works out the unit sale price from the MRP and net quantity.
- It does not check that what you type is true, make food (FSSAI) labels, or print barcodes.
Printing tips
- Print at 100% (Actual size). "Fit to page" shrinks the stickers and moves them off the sheet.
- Thermal roll: set the printer's paper size to the roll size you picked, like 75 x 50 mm.
- A4 sheet: print one page on plain paper first and hold it against the sticker sheet. On a part-used sheet, type how many stickers are already gone.
- Stick it where the buyer sees it, on a flat side of the pack, without covering another label.
Sending stock to an Amazon warehouse too? The free FNSKU label maker prints the barcode labels.
How to make MRP stickers
- Type the product name, net quantity, MRP and the month and year it was made. The unit sale price is worked out for you.
- Type who made or packed it with the full address, and the consumer care phone and email. These stay in this browser for the next product, until you sign out or click Forget my details.
- Pick the sticker size and how many, download the PDF and print it at 100% (Actual size). Read one sticker through before you print the rest.
Questions sellers ask about MRP stickers
What must an MRP sticker show?
Under the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, a packed product's label shows: the maker's name and address (and the packer's or importer's when they are different), the country of origin for imported goods, the common name of the product, the net quantity in a standard unit, the month and year it was made, the MRP inclusive of all taxes, the unit sale price, and consumer care details (name, address, phone and email). Goods that can go bad also need a best before date. This list was checked on 21 Oct 2026; rules change, so check the current rules for your product.
Do I need MRP stickers to sell on Meesho, Flipkart or Amazon?
If you sell packed goods, yes. The Legal Metrology rules apply to packed goods sold in India, online too, and they also ask online marketplaces to show these details on the product page. Flipkart, for example, asks for them when you list a packed product. Some goods have their own rules. From 1 Jan 2023 (notified 22 Aug 2022) loose clothes need a shorter list: maker or brand name and address, country of origin if imported, consumer care phone and email, the size in cm next to S/M/L, and the MRP; for online sales these must be on the listing. Food follows the FSSAI label rules. Check the current rules for your product.
Which sticker size should I pick?
Any printer can print the A4 sheet of 24 stickers (70 x 37 mm each) on sticker paper or plain paper. With a thermal printer, the 75 x 50 mm roll has room for every line. The 50 x 25 mm roll is small: the lines run on to fit, and a long address may not fit at all. Pick 100 x 50 mm or the A4 sheet of 12 for long addresses. The tool tells you before Download if the words do not fit, and never cuts a line off.
What is the unit sale price, and when do I need it?
It is the price for one unit, so buyers can compare packs of different sizes. Under 1 kg it is the price per gram, above 1 kg per kilogram; the same for ml and litres, and for cm and metres; per piece for goods sold by number. It is not needed when it would equal the MRP (exactly 1 kg or one piece). Not needed either for combination, group and multi-piece packs (each piece packed or labelled on its own), per the change announced 6 Oct 2023, in force 1 Jan 2024. The tool works it out from the MRP and the net quantity, rounded to paise.
Why does the sticker say Rs. and not the rupee sign?
The sticker uses the standard font every PDF reader has, so the file stays small and prints the same everywhere, and that font has no rupee sign. The rules ask for the MRP in Indian currency, and Rs. is the usual way to write it.
Does this sticker make my product compliant?
No. This tool prints what you type, in a clear layout with the lines the rules list. It does not check that your details are true, that your product may be sold, or that your pack meets every rule. If you type your pack's front size, it says how tall the rules ask the letters to be and whether this sticker's letters reach that. For the rest, ask your state's Legal Metrology office or a professional.
Is anything I type uploaded?
No. The stickers are made in this browser tab and the PDF is saved straight to your computer. Your business details and sticker size stay in this browser for the next product, until you sign out of OrderLens or click Forget my details.
