Volumetric weight calculator for online sellers

Volumetric weight is length × breadth × height in cm ÷ 5000, in kg. Many couriers charge the higher of that and the packed weight. Type your polybag or box to see which one you pay for. Free, no login.

Parcels under 1 kg

Delhivery's help page (dated 17 June 2025) says that for parcels under 1 kg it uses the packed weight as it is, and that parcels in flyers (polybags) are charged on packed weight up to 1 kg. Over 1 kg it charges the higher of the packed weight and L × B × H ÷ 5000. Most marketplace parcels are under 1 kg, so with Delhivery this calculator can show more than you really pay. The result reads as what a courier using the higher-weight rule would charge.

Volumetric weight on each marketplace

Meesho

Meesho does not publish a volumetric formula, a divisor or weight slabs. Its shipping page says the return fee is "based on the weight of the shipment", and nothing more. Blogs say Meesho divides by 5000, but we found no Meesho page that says so. Use this calculator as a check, not as Meesho's own number. To see what one return costs you, try the Meesho return and RTO charges calculator.

Flipkart and Shopsy

Flipkart charges shipping by weight and zone, and parcels under 500 g ship free locally and zonally. We found no Flipkart page with a volumetric divisor; seller blogs say 5000. Shopsy orders come through the same Flipkart seller account. Check your Flipkart rate card, and see fees and profit in the Flipkart profit calculator.

Amazon Easy Ship

Easy Ship weight handling is one rate across India, by packed weight. An Amazon seller blog post from 2016 says Amazon charges on whichever is higher, the packed weight or L × B × H in cm ÷ 5000. We found no newer Amazon page that says the same, so treat it as old. Fees by weight are in our Amazon closing fee and Easy Ship guide, and profit per order in the Amazon Easy Ship profit calculator.

Myntra, Snapdeal and others

We found no published volumetric rule from Myntra or Snapdeal. Delhivery divides by 5000, and so do most of Shiprocket's courier partners. Use 5000 unless your rate card says another number.

Which courier bag size for kurtis, sarees and other clothes?

Measure the folded piece. Pick a bag at least as wide as its width plus its thickness, and as long as its length plus its thickness plus the flap. Then type the packed parcel's size in the calculator above, not the flat bag's size. Common sizes sold are 6 × 8, 10 × 14, 12 × 16 and 18 × 24 inches (seen on sale listings, 21 Oct 2026), and sizes vary by maker. This is a rule of thumb we worked out, not a marketplace chart.

For example, a folded kurti of 30 × 25 × 3 cm: a 12 × 16 inch bag fits. Packed, it is 0.45 kg by size, under 0.5 kg. Delhivery charges flyers (polybags) on packed weight up to 1 kg, so with Delhivery the bag size may not change the charge at all. For boxes, see "What box size stays under 500 g?" in the questions below.

Filled with a sample: a folded kurti. Type your own piece, folded.

How to use the volumetric weight calculator

  1. Measure the packed polybag or box: length, breadth and height, in cm or inch.
  2. Weigh the packed parcel and type the weight in kg. Keep 5000 and the 0.5 kg slab unless your courier says otherwise.
  3. Read the weight you pay for. Open "See the sum" to check it.

Questions sellers ask

How is volumetric weight calculated?

Multiply length × breadth × height in cm and divide by 5000. The answer is in kg. A 30 × 25 × 8 cm box is 6,000 cm³ ÷ 5000 = 1.2 kg.

Which weight does the courier charge?

Many courier platforms, for example Shiprocket, charge the higher of the two: the packed weight on a scale, or the volumetric weight. Delhivery's help page says that under 1 kg it uses the packed weight, and that parcels in flyers (polybags) are charged on packed weight up to 1 kg. So a box that is 1.2 kg by size but weighs 0.5 kg is charged on 1.2 kg by a courier using the higher-weight rule, and on its packed weight by Delhivery.

Do all couriers divide by 5000?

Delhivery uses 5000, and so do most of Shiprocket's courier partners (Shiprocket says it can vary). Some use 4000 or 6000, so you can change the number in "Divide by".

What does Meesho use for volumetric weight?

Meesho does not publish a volumetric formula. Its shipping page says the return fee goes by the weight of the shipment. Blogs say Meesho divides by 5000, but we found no Meesho page that says so.

Is there a weight slab chart for Meesho, Flipkart or Amazon?

Not one we can trust for Meesho or Flipkart: charts on blogs disagree with each other, so we do not show one. Most Indian couriers charge in 0.5 kg slabs, so the calculator starts at 0.5 kg. Type the slab your courier uses, or 0 for the exact weight. Amazon Easy Ship fees by weight are in our Easy Ship guide.

How do I work out volumetric weight in inches?

Pick inch and type the sizes. The calculator turns each side into cm (1 inch = 2.54 cm) and divides by 5000. A 10 × 8 × 4 inch box is 25.4 × 20.32 × 10.16 cm, about 5,244 cm³, so about 1.05 kg.

What box size stays under 500 g?

By size, any box or polybag up to 2,500 cm³ when the courier divides by 5000, for example 25 × 20 × 5 cm. The packed weight has to be under 500 g too.

How do I lower the volumetric weight?

Use the smallest box or polybag the product fits in safely: the volumetric weight falls with the volume. A 36 × 20 × 9 cm parcel is 1.296 kg by size. Packed 6.9 cm thick instead of 9 cm, it is 0.994 kg, just under 1 kg.

What courier bag size do I need for a kurti?

Measure it folded. A folded kurti of 30 × 25 × 3 cm fits a 12 × 16 inch bag. Packed, it is 0.45 kg by size, under 0.5 kg. For any other piece, pick a bag at least as wide as the folded width plus the thickness, and as long as the folded length plus the thickness plus the flap. Sizes vary by maker.

Does a bigger courier bag cost more in shipping?

Only if the packed parcel gets bigger. Many couriers charge the higher of the packed weight and the volumetric weight, so a loose bag that makes the parcel longer or wider can raise the weight by size. Delhivery charges parcels in flyers (polybags) on packed weight up to 1 kg, so with Delhivery the bag size may not change the charge.
