Sample numbers, to show the sum: a pack of 100 courier bags for ₹190 is ₹1.90 a parcel, a ₹45 tape roll that lasts about 60 parcels is ₹0.75, and 500 labels for ₹250 is ₹0.50. Together that is ₹3.15 a parcel, ₹315 for 100 parcels, and ₹1,890 a month at 20 parcels a day. Your own prices will differ: type them above.

Questions sellers ask

How do I work out packing cost per parcel?

Divide what you paid for each thing by the number of parcels it lasts, then add them up. Sample: a pack of 100 courier bags for ₹190 is ₹1.90 a parcel, a ₹45 tape roll that lasts about 60 parcels is ₹0.75, and 500 labels for ₹250 is ₹0.50: ₹3.15 a parcel. At 20 parcels a day that is ₹1,890 a month. Type your own prices above to see yours.

What should I count as packing?

Whatever goes in or on every parcel: the courier bag or box, tape, the label roll or sheet, an inner polybag, bubble wrap, a tag or a thank-you card. Leave out things you buy once and keep using, like a tape gun or a printer: no single parcel uses them up.

Per parcel or per piece?

Per parcel. A 2-piece order goes in one bag with one label, so it costs one parcel's packing. OrderLens counts packaging the same way, and so does the profit calculator's Packing per order box.

Do I lose the packing when an order comes back?

Yes. Packing is spent the day you ship, so a customer return or an RTO loses it, and the next parcel needs new packing. The profit calculator already counts this: it charges packing on every parcel you ship. To see what one return costs you in cash, packing included, use the Meesho return and RTO charges calculator.

Should I type prices with or without GST?

Type what the packing really costs you. If you file GST and claim the GST on your packing bills back as input credit, type the price before GST, because that GST comes back to you. If you do not file GST, or your bill has no GST on it, type the full price you paid. Ask your CA if you are not sure.
