Meesho shipping charges: why they look high, what you can change

Checked on From real payment files and official sources

In one real store's payment files, the charge was usually about ₹43 an order. But the customer had already paid about 80% of it, so it cost the seller about ₹9 more. If you claim GST credit, that can come down to about ₹3 to ₹4. Shiprocket says you can't type this charge. The one honest way to lower it: make the parcel smaller and lighter, then compare your next payment file.

Example numbers. The first three headings are real column names; the last one is our sum. Check yours: Total Sale Amount minus Listing Price, against Shipping Charge.

So when you look only at the Shipping Charge column, shipping looks much bigger than it is. Most of it was the customer's money, passing through your payment. For every other cut, see what Meesho takes from your payment.

What the real files show

  • The charge: usually about ₹43. About half the orders were ₹30 to ₹55. The highest was about ₹110. On about 1 order in 5 it was under ₹20, and the customer paid little of it.
  • The customer's share: about 80% of the charge on most orders, usually about ₹35.
  • The gap: about ₹8 to ₹9 on most orders. This is what you feel in your payment.
  • After GST: in these files the charge had 18% GST inside it and the customer's share had 5%. Take both out and the gap was usually about ₹3 to ₹4, though some orders were near ₹0 and some ₹6 to ₹9. This only helps if you claim GST credit and have GST to use it against, so ask your CA. If you sell on an Enrolment ID or under the composition scheme, you can't claim it, so count the ₹8 to ₹9.

This is one clothing store at 5% GST, so your numbers can differ. The newest orders in these files, from October, were a little higher, usually about ₹51. Too few to call it a change, so check your own.

Why the same product can cost more

All 11 products in that store with 8 or more delivered orders had orders more than ₹20 apart, for the same product. The file does not say why. It has no weight, no distance and no courier.

A Shiprocket article says the charge comes from the packed weight and the delivery zone (Local, Regional or National). That is Shiprocket, not Meesho. It also lists rates, but it calls them seller-reported, so we don't copy them. Meesho's own pages give no rate card for this charge. They only call it cost-effective and say it carries 18% GST.

What you can honestly change

  1. Check the number in your panel first. Before you list a product or change its packing, look at the shipping your panel shows for it. That number beats any blog, tool or video.
  2. Pack smaller. Couriers usually charge by real weight or by volumetric weight, whichever is higher (length × width × height ÷ 5000; some use 4000). A big box on a light kurti can cost you. Try yours in the volumetric weight tool.
  3. Keep the packing light. Extra layers add weight and cost. Work it out in the packing cost tool.
  4. Set your price knowing the full cost. The profit calculator shows what is left after shipping.

What about photo "shipping reducer" tools?

You will see videos showing a charge falling after a seller changes the product photo. We have no proof from real files that this lasts, and we don't recommend it. If your photo stops matching the real piece, you can also get more returns, and each customer return cost about ₹175 in these files. See return and RTO charges.

Questions sellers ask

Why are Meesho shipping charges so high?

It looks high because the Shipping Charge column shows the full amount, usually about ₹43 in the files we checked. The customer had already paid about 80% of that, so the seller paid about ₹8 to ₹9 more.

How can I reduce Meesho shipping charges?

Check the number your panel shows, pack smaller and lighter, and compare your next payment files. No one can promise a saving, because you can't choose the courier or the distance.

Is there a Meesho shipping charges list or per kg chart?

We found no public rate card from Meesho. Tables on other sites are seller-reported. Check the number your own panel shows for your product.

Can I edit the shipping charge in the Meesho panel?

A Shiprocket article says sellers can't. Check your own panel if the screen has changed.

Why is shipping different for the same product?

We saw it on every product with 8 or more delivered orders, more than ₹20 apart. The payment file does not say why. A Shiprocket article says weight and delivery zone decide it.

Do photo shipping reducer tools work?

We have no proof from real files that they last, and we don't recommend them. A photo that doesn't match the piece can also bring more returns.

Is shipping charged on an RTO?

In the files we checked, an RTO settled at ₹0, with no shipping taken. Meesho's page also says it charges no return fee for an RTO.

Does the shipping charge include GST?

Yes. Meesho's page says 18%, and the column says GST is included. From 1 November 2026 some delivery services for marketplace orders are at 5%. We don't know yet if this charge is one of them, so ask your CA to check Meesho's invoice.
