Meesho ads ROI vs your real profit

The ROI on your ads panel is about sales, not profit. Your product cost, returns, RTO and packaging still come out of those sales. In our example the ads only start to make money above an ROI of about 3.9. Yours will be different.

How Meesho charges for ads

In November 2025 Meesho said it had moved away from pay-per-click to ROI-based ads: you set the return you want from your ad money, and Meesho spends it only when it expects to reach that. Meesho's older ads page still talks about paying per click, with a ₹300 minimum budget. So check how your own campaign is charged when you set it up in the panel.

Either way, nothing is paid upfront: the ad cost is taken from your payouts, and the payment file's Ads Cost sheet shows it with 18% GST added.

What the ROI in your panel counts

Meesho's ads page says the Advertisement overview shows "the ROI and budget utilized" for each campaign. It does not say how the ROI is worked out, and we found no public Meesho page that does.

What Meesho has said is how the target works. Its co-founder and CTO said that if a seller wants 10x on a ₹100 budget, Meesho spends it only if it sees a clear path to ₹1,000 in incremental sales, meaning extra sales the ad brings in. So ROI is a sales number.

The panel does not know your side: what a piece costs you, your packaging, and how many orders you get to keep. So a "good" ROI on its own says nothing about profit. Ask Support if your panel doesn't say:

  • Does the ROI count orders placed, or only delivered ones?
  • Are returns and RTO taken out of the sales?
  • Is it all sales from ad orders, or only the extra sales Meesho thinks the ad brought?
  • Is the ad spend with or without the 18% GST?

Example: what ROI do you need?

The same shop as our real profit guide: price ₹500 (5% GST inside), cost ₹250 a piece, packaging ₹14 a parcel, return shipping ₹175. But here we look only at 100 orders that came from ads: 20 come back as RTO, 10 are returned by the customer and 70 are delivered. We assume the panel's ROI = sales from ads ÷ money spent on ads, counting all 100 orders: ₹50,000 of sales.

₹50,000 of ad sales, and what is left before ads

Example numbers, not a real store. Pieces that come back go into stock, so only 70 are a cost. GST: about ₹1,667 inside your price, less about ₹267 claimed back on return shipping.

So the ads can cost up to about ₹12,950 before they eat all the profit. That makes the break-even ROI (where ads neither make nor lose money) ₹50,000 ÷ ₹12,950 = about 3.9. Here is the same month at four ROIs:

Worked example

Profit left after ads, at four ROIs

ROI 10: ₹5,000 on ads₹7,950
ROI 5: ₹10,000 on ads₹2,950
ROI 4: ₹12,500 on ads₹450
ROI 3: about ₹16,667 on ads−₹3,717

Ad spend = ₹50,000 ÷ ROI, GST included, and we don't count that GST back. A regular GST seller who claims it back can spend a little more. Forward shipping, TCS and TDS are left out, as in the real profit guide. This is an example, not a rule.

Your own break-even ROI = the ad sales your panel counts ÷ your profit before ads. A quick rule: if profit before ads is a quarter of the ad sales, you need an ROI above 4; a fifth, above 5; a third, above 3. More returns push it up: see what a return and an RTO cost.

Why is the ad spend here so much bigger than in the real profit guide? That guide spreads one month's ad cost over all your orders, and most orders don't come from ads. Here every order came from an ad.

Find your ad orders in the payment file

  1. In Order Payments, filter Order source to "Ad order". In our files about 45% of rows were ad orders.
  2. Count them by Live Order Status: Delivered, Return, RTO. This shows how many ad orders you really kept.
  3. Open the Ads Cost sheet and add up Total Ads Cost for the month. It is a minus amount, taken from your payout, with 18% GST already in it. It was taken on weekdays only.
  4. Compare it with your profit on delivered ad orders, for a month that is 2 to 3 weeks old.

Questions sellers ask

What is a good ROI for Meesho ads?

One above your own break-even: the ad sales your panel counts ÷ your profit before ads. In our example that was about 3.9. Yours depends on your price, cost and returns.

How is Meesho ads ROI calculated?

Meesho's public pages don't say. Your panel's Advertisement overview shows it. Ask Support whether it counts orders placed or delivered, and whether returns are taken out.

How much do Meesho ads cost?

You choose the budget; Meesho's ads page says the minimum is ₹300. In November 2025 Meesho said it spends against a return target you set, while its older ads page talks of paying per click, so check your campaign in the panel. The cost is taken from your payouts, with 18% GST.

Where can I see my Meesho ads cost?

In the Ads Cost sheet of your payment file. Total Ads Cost is what was taken, with 18% GST already in it.

Is a high ROI the same as profit?

No. ROI is about sales. Product cost, returns, RTO, packaging and GST come out after. In our example an ROI of 3 lost about ₹3,717 on 100 orders.

Type your price, cost, packaging, ads and how many orders come back. It works out profit per delivered order, so you can see what your ads leave you. It's free.
