Meesho HSN code for clothes, and when GST is 5% or 18%

Checked on From real payment files and official sources

An HSN code is the tax code for your product. A woven piece, like most cotton kurtis, is in chapter 62. A knitted one, like most T-shirts, is in chapter 61. With the price, it decides your GST: 5% up to ₹2,500 a piece and 18% above it, since 22 September 2025. The old 12% is gone. Your CA should confirm your code.

Hindi mein padhein (Hinglish)

GST on clothes, by sale value of one piece
Up to ₹2,500 a piece
  1. Chapter 61 or 62 clothes

5% GST

Above ₹2,500 a piece
  1. The same clothes, at a higher value

18% GST

From the government notice in force since 22 September 2025. The rule goes by each piece, not by the whole bill.

Common HSN headings for clothes

HSN is a number that tells the tax office what you sell. The first 2 digits are the chapter, and more digits make it more exact. These are common 4-digit headings:

  • 6204: women's suits, dresses, skirts and trousers, not knitted.
  • 6206: women's blouses and shirts, not knitted.
  • 6211: track suits and other garments, not knitted.
  • 6104: women's suits, dresses, skirts and trousers, knitted.
  • 6106: women's blouses and shirts, knitted.
  • 6109: T-shirts and vests, knitted.
  • 6114: other garments, knitted.
  • 6203 and 6205: men's suits and trousers, and men's shirts, not knitted.

A kurti has no heading of its own, and guides differ: a woven one under 6204, 6206 or 6211, a knitted one under 6114. So ask your CA which one fits. Sarees and unstitched fabric often sit in other chapters with their own rule, so check the HSN search for them.

How to find the code for your product

  1. Knitted or not? That picks the chapter: 61 or 62.
  2. Search it on the GST portal's HSN search. Type the heading or the product, and read the description.
  3. Pick the line that really describes the piece: women's or men's, the type of garment, the fabric.
  4. Show your CA before you list many products, above all for sets such as kurti, pant and dupatta. A set is a real tax question, and we won't guess it for you.

The ₹2,500 rule

Worked example

Two kurtis, same HSN

Sale value ₹2,400 before GST: 5%GST on ₹2,400₹120
Sale value ₹2,600 before GST: 18%GST on ₹2,600₹468

Example numbers, before GST. Your Meesho price and payment file have GST inside, so don't compare them directly with ₹2,500. ₹2,600 with 5% GST inside is about ₹2,476 before GST. Tax sites read the limit as before GST and after discount, but we found no government page that says so, or how shipping counts. If your price is close to ₹2,500, ask your CA.

In the store we checked, prices stayed well under ₹2,500 and every order was at 5%. We have never seen an 18% order in our files. So we can show you the rule, but not an 18% order from real files.

Check what your files show

Your GST report has the code for each order, and your payment file has the rate:

  • Payment file: the Product GST % column.
  • GST report: the hsn_code and gst_rate columns in tcs_sales. See the GST report guide.
  • Tax invoice zip: the HSN column in the details sheet.

If a code or rate looks wrong, show your CA first, then change the product in your panel. Ask about orders already invoiced, because changing the panel may not fix those. Your panel's form decides how the code is entered, so follow what it shows.

The rate also changes your profit: see Meesho real profit. Selling without a GST number? See selling on Meesho without GST.

Questions sellers ask

What is the HSN code on Meesho?

It is the tax code for your product. With the price, it decides the GST rate, and it goes on your invoices and GST report. Stitched clothes are in chapter 61 (knitted) or 62 (not knitted).

What is the HSN code for a kurti on Meesho?

A kurti has no heading of its own, and guides differ: a woven one under 6204, 6206 or 6211, a knitted one under 6114. Check the GST portal's HSN search, and ask your CA.

What is the GST on clothes in 2026?

5% up to ₹2,500 a piece and 18% above it, from 22 September 2025. The old 12% rate is gone.

Is the ₹2,500 limit per piece or per bill?

Per piece. The notice says "sale value" per piece. Tax sites read it as before GST and after discount. Close to ₹2,500, ask your CA.

What HSN code do I use for a kurti, pant and dupatta set?

A set is a real tax question, and we won't guess it. Show the set to your CA before you list it.

What is the HSN code for a saree?

Sarees often sit in fabric chapters, not 61 or 62, and they go by fabric. Check the GST portal's HSN search, and ask your CA for the rate.

Where can I see the HSN code on my Meesho orders?

In the hsn_code column of your GST report, and the HSN column in your tax invoice sheet. The GST rate is in the Product GST % column of your payment file.
