Can you sell on Meesho without GST?

Yes. Without a GSTIN you sign up with an enrolment ID from the GST portal. Then you can sell only inside your own State, and only while your yearly sales stay under the limit (Meesho's page says ₹40 lakh, lower in some States). To sell all over India, you need a regular GSTIN.

Three ways to sell on Meesho
Enrolment ID (no GSTIN)
  1. Get it on the GST portal
  2. Your own State only
  3. Meesho's limit: ₹40 lakh a year

No TCS cut. No GST claimed back.

Composition GSTIN
  1. Your own State only
  2. Meesho's limit: ₹1.5 crore a year

TCS cut. No GST claimed back.

Regular GSTIN
  1. Sell all over India
  2. File GSTR-1 and GST returns

TCS 0.5% cut. GST on purchases claimed back.

Limits as Meesho's page states them on 14 October 2026. They are lower in some States.

An enrolment ID is a number the GST portal gives to someone not registered under GST, so they can sell through a marketplace. It is not a GSTIN. Meesho asks for it in place of a GSTIN when you sign up.

Is ₹40 lakh enough for you?

Worked example

30 orders a day at ₹450

One day: 30 × ₹450₹13,500
One year: ₹13,500 × 365₹49,27,500

Example numbers. That is about ₹49 lakh a year, over Meesho's ₹40 lakh. Meesho's page talks of net sales, so returns may come off, and sales outside Meesho count too. Ask your CA what counts for you.

The bigger catch is the State rule. With an enrolment ID you sell only inside your own State. In the store we checked (regular GSTIN), about 96 in 100 orders went to other States. So an enrolment ID would have missed most of its orders.

Where to get the enrolment ID

  1. On the GST portal, open Services → User Services → Generate User ID for Unregistered Applicant.
  2. The page says the ID is for people "not registered or not liable to be registered under GST Act", for example "to supply through E-Commerce Operators". It asks "Do you wish to Continue?": click Yes.
  3. Keep your PAN, business address and State ready.
  4. Sign up on Meesho with the enrolment ID and a bank account.

Pick the State with care. Meesho: "The state you register during Enrolment ID or Composition GSTIN registration will be considered your registered state."

The rules that come with an enrolment ID

  • Your own State only, goods only. No sales to customers in other States.
  • Meesho's sales limit. Meesho's page says that if your total yearly net sales, on Meesho and elsewhere, pass ₹40 lakh, it stops further sales until you get a GSTIN. It says ₹20 lakh for north-eastern States.
  • The law's limit can be lower. GST law says you must register once your yearly sales pass ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh in some States), and a State can raise this to up to ₹40 lakh for sellers of goods only. It counts all your sales, not just Meesho. Ask your CA which limit applies to you.
  • No TCS. The marketplace does not cut TCS from you. It still reports your sales to the government in its own return, GSTR-8, under your enrolment ID.

Composition GSTIN

Composition is a GST option for small sellers: you pay a small fixed share of your sales as GST and file less, but you cannot claim back any GST you paid on purchases. Meesho: "even sellers with Composition GSTIN can register and sell on Meesho." You still sell only in your own State, and TCS is cut. Meesho's limit is ₹1.5 crore a year, or ₹75 lakh in north-eastern States.

What changes with a regular GSTIN

  • You can sell all over India.
  • 0.5% TCS is cut from each payment. It is your own GST paid in advance, claimed back on the GST portal. See Meesho TCS and TDS.
  • Input credit: you claim back GST paid on business purchases, shipping and ads, with a proper tax invoice.
  • Returns to file: your sales details (GSTR-1) and GST returns, usually through a CA. How the panel's GST report helps: Meesho GST report and GSTR-1.

Getting a GSTIN can be quick now. The GST Council said in October 2026 that the portal grants registration automatically, without an officer, when the applicant will pass on no more than ₹2.5 lakh of input credit a month to business buyers.

It depends on your numbers. With an enrolment ID you sell only in your State, no TCS is cut, and you claim no GST back. With a regular GSTIN you can sell all over India and claim back GST on purchases, shipping and ads, but 0.5% TCS is cut (it comes back) and you file returns. Your CA can work out which leaves you more.
