One clothing store, returns created August to October 2026. The first three lines under the figures are Meesho's own words. The customer picks the reason, so it is a clue, not proof.
RTO is not on this list. An RTO is a parcel the courier could not deliver, and no customer gives a reason for it. See return and RTO charges for how the two differ.
Why it is worth fixing
Worked example
What 10 customer returns cost
| Return shipping₹175 each, the usual charge in these files | −₹1,750 |
| Packaging₹14 each, an example. It doesn't come back | −₹140 |
| Lost, before any piece comes back damaged | −₹1,890 |
Example numbers, using ₹175 on about 94% of returns in one store's payment files. Meesho's page says the fee goes by weight, so yours can differ. An RTO settled at ₹0 in the same files, so customer returns are where the money goes.
Find your own top reason
- Download your returns file from the panel.
- Add your orders file too, and the return percentage tool shows each product's rate and its top reason.
- Pick one product with the most returns and fix only its top reason. Then compare after a few weeks.
What to do for each reason
- Quality: the piece must look like the photo. Use real photos of the piece you ship, state the true fabric, and don't show a colour you can't match. Check the pieces when a new lot comes in from your vendor.
- Size or fit: put the real measurements of the piece in your size chart, in inches. Measure one yourself. If one size keeps coming back, check that size first.
- Don't need it: you can do little here. Change of mind happens. Check what the product page promises, and leave it.
- Wrong product: check the label against the piece before you seal the packet. Keep similar colours apart in your stock.
- Incomplete or defective: count the pieces in a set, and look for stains or tears when you pack. Then you can pack it again with a good piece.
None of this is a promise. We can't say how many returns each step saves. It goes after the reasons customers gave.
When a return comes back wrong
Some returns are not your fault at all: the wrong piece, a used piece or an empty box comes back. Don't lose that money. Record the unboxing and raise a claim the same day. Returns also eat into your real profit. The return claim checker shows which returns reached you.
Questions sellers ask
How do I reduce returns on Meesho?
Find the top return reason for your worst product in your returns file, and fix that first. In one clothing store we checked, quality was 47% and size or fit 26%, so true photos and a true size chart came first.
Why do customers return products on Meesho?
In one clothing store's 329 customer returns: 47% quality, 26% size or fit, 15% don't need it, 9% wrong product and 3% incomplete or defective. The customer picks the reason.
What is a good return rate on Meesho?
We found no number from Meesho. Blogs quote limits with no source. Compare a product with your own other products instead.
How much does a return cost a Meesho seller?
About ₹175 in return shipping on about 94% of customer returns in the files we checked, plus packaging. An RTO settled at ₹0.
Can I call the customer to stop a return?
We advise against it. We found one seller complaint about a fine for this, and no Meesho rule we could open. Fix the listing and the packing instead.
Does a wrong return get my money back?
It can. Raise a claim the day the parcel reaches you, with an unboxing video. No one can promise approval.
